Kano Government approves purchase of over N5b Fertilizer, N1b for Healthcare.



Determined to improve food sufficiency through Agricultural transformation, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano state has approved the procurement of fertilizer worth over five billion naira.

In a statement issued by the Governor's spokesperson Mr. Sanusi Bature said 
the approval came during the 15th state executive council meeting held at the Government house Kano.

He noted that, it is a fulfilment of Governor Yusuf's camping promise
as the purchase of fertilizer became necessary to support small holder farmers especially those in rural areas for them to get a high yield of crops in the 2024 rainy season.

"A substantial amount of N5,073,840,000 has been allocated by the Kano State Executive Council for the acquisition of fertilizer across the 44 Local Government areas of the state."

Bature said, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf had previously purchased grains worth billions of naira and distributed to the vulnerable people in the state to cushion the effects of hardship faced a significant number of people in the state.

"The fertilizer approved to be purchased will complement the one already produced by the state owned Kano Agricultural Supply Company (KASCO) and would be made available to farmers in a subsidized price within the state"

Healthcare:

The Governor also, approved N 1 billion for improving healthcare access and quality for all residents of Kano.

This includes the allocation of N165 million for the procurement of essential medications and welcome packs for newborns, as well as the provision of free maternal, neonatal, child health, and emergency supplies from begining of the year 2024. 

Bature added that, the governor has re-awarded the contract for the completion of College of Nursing and Midwifery in Madobi with an investment of N57 million. 

Also, the Construction and renovation works at the School of Health Technology, Kano valued at N35 million, to upgrade its infrastructure and support the training of future healthcare professionals.

"An additional N28.5 million has been allocated for the construction and renovation of the College of Nursing and Midwifery in Dambatta, expanding educational opportunities for aspiring nursing students."

"The Isolation Centre in Yargaya, Dawakin Kudu Local Government Area, crucial for managing infectious diseases, will undergo significant renovation with an allocation of N17.4 million.

A substantial contract exceeding N770 million has been re-awarded for the construction of the Post Midwifery Institute in Gezawa Local Government Area, which will play a pivotal role in advancing midwifery education and improving maternal health services in the region."
