Kano Government calls for Transparency in handling Donor funds.

The Kano State Government has advocated for Transparency in the handling of funds donated by International Development partners for executing projects in the state.

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf made the call at a dialogue on Effective Implantation of International Development Funds in Kano.

The Dialogue with the theme, "Ensuring Value for Money Towards Achieving International Funded Projects Deliverables in Kano state brought together stakeholders and Development partners with the aim to improve collaboration and deepen mutual trust.

The Governor Represented by Chief of Staff Alhaji Shehu Wada Sagagi reminded the stakeholders in the state that, the funds are borrowed resources stressing the need to ensure fairness and accountability.

He also, urged donor agencies co-funding projects in the state to report to him any breaches they observed in the implementation of the projects for necessary action.

The Governor said the Donor Agencies should reach him directly to deliver any observed anomalies regarding the execution of the projects to enable him to act.

He noted that, his administration is determined to ensure accountability and prompt execution of the projects to enable the people of the state benefit from them.

Earlier, the convener of the event and Accountant General of Kano State, Abdulkadir Abdulsalam said the state has released about N600 million as counterpart funding to the new projects based on the needs and effective implementation of the project as it directly benefits the citizens of the state.

He noted that, the gathering was to bring together the stakeholders and implementing partner on how to work together to ensure full utilization and effective implementation of the International Development funds to achieve the deliverables of the projects within time, cost and scope.

"We came to learn that the international development funds which we call capital receipt in our yearly budgets which constitutes about 30 per cent of our yearly budgets. And these funds are not grants, most of them are loans to the state. So that is why we ensure value for money and effective utilization and implementation of these projects within the project triangles of cost, scope and time," he said.

Some of the projects were around improving water supply, Agriculture, food security, climate change, degradation of rural areas, education, sanitation, rural access roads and health care services among others.
